About the event
The tabletop section of this class will provide understanding of a variety of maps, map scales, and their common elements; topographic map symbology and interpretation; compass elements and how to use a compass with a map; coordinate systems (latitude/longitude, UTM, grids, indices), coordinate conversions, and calculating distance and speed; how to use a course plotter; how to make a reference scale; how to interpret and use a roadbook for an enduro; and introduction to a few digital maps and tools. During the field portion, participants will use map and compass to navigate to and from waypoints by locating themselves on a topographic map, taking bearings, and navigating on foot between waypoints.
