About the event
This class will provide understanding of a variety of paper maps and their common elements; topographic map symbology and interpretation; compass elements and how to use a compass with a map; coordinate systems (latitude/longitude, UTM, grids, indices), coordinate conversions, and introduction to digital maps and tools.
Students will leave the class with a basic understanding of how to read and interpret a map and use a compass for navigation.

We will spend half the day on tabletop exercises in Lakewood and half the day in the field using map and compass about 45 minutes west of Lakewood requiring you to drive your own vehicle or ride with another attendee.
