About the event

We are happy to partner with ToyTec Lifts again to host a Winchline Splicing Clinic.  This event is free, however if you would like to help subsidize this kind of training you are able Pay What You Want!

One of the advantages of synthetic winchline is the ability to make field repairs or modifications with a few simple tools and techniques.  We will demonstrate common eye-splicing methods for 12-strand synthetic rope and discuss several types of terminations.  We will have tools and demonstration lines available if you would like to try your hand at splicing.  We will discuss wire rope terminations but recommend you have that work done by an shop that caters to overhead lifting professionals, such as Mazzella (aka Denver Wire Rope).  After demonstrations we will keep the space open for anyone with further questions or wanting to work on their own lines.

If you plan to work on your own lines we recommend you bring the following items with you:

- 3/4" vinyl electrical tape - bring your favorite color!

- High quality carbon steel scissors - any scissors will work, but will dull quickly.

- Splicing fid - there are a variety of options (you could even use a ballpoint pen body...). Make sure you get something properly sized for the line you want to splice (1/4", 3/8". 7/16", 1/2", etc.).  We've had good experiences with Factor55 and Selma fids.  We will have some Factor55 fids available at ToyTec for purchase at a discounted price.

- Thimbles or other terminations (hooks, flatlinks, etc.) if you want to install them.  These are not required and some types not recommended (we will discuss this duriung the demonstration).  If you choose to use a thimble or other termination make sure it is high quality and crush resistant.  For thimbles on 3/8"-1/2" synthetic line we recommend a 5/8" thimble to clear both the pin and the ears of a 3/4" screw-pin bow shackle.

If you have any questions about any of the above, feel free to contact us directly prior to the clinic.
